30 pounds loss to goal

Before               After

I have been heavy all my life...I tried many different diets...Once I ate only cottage cheese and peaches for a month...I lost...but when I went back to my regular eating habits, the pounds came back on...and added more.

When I was dating my wife, I though, "She won't have anything to do with me if I am fat."  But, she loved me anyway.  So I continued my bad food habits.  I could consume 1/2 gallon of ice cream every night and usually did. She cooked homemade meals with lots of desserts.  Now, what kind of a husband would I be, if I refused to eat her cooking?

My wife, Marie joined TOPS in 1992.  She became a KOPS in November 1993, she really tried to get me to join at the same time, but that ice cream just kept calling me.

I finally joined in December 2009, but it wasn't my fault.  Marie's TOPS friend ruby and her husband Max and I had become good friend.  Max and I joked to one another that if one joined, the other would.  Well, would you believe Max and Ruby came by the house one day.  Max had just been to his doctor who told him he had to lose weight and the next Thursday, guess where we both were?  But it has been a blessing for me; my health improved and I received so much support and encouragement from my chapter even if I gained.  I finally met my KOPS goal weight on October 30, 2010 and am looking forward to maintaining it for the rest of my life.  Thanks TOPS!  You're Great!

88.25 pounds loss to goal

Before                After

I'm not sure when I first joined TOPS, probably in 1967, but TOPS OK 504 is the third group of which I have been a member.

I have been overweight since I was a child. I do remember that  when I was eleven, I weighed 110 obs. I also remember thinking, "That is just ten pounds a year". But, if we carried that premise through, today I would weigh 810 pounds.  How about you?

In the first year I was in TOPS, I won second in my division at SRD in Oklahoma City, but when I went back to work in 1969, I dropped out  of TOPS. I came close to reaching my goal on more than one occasion, but I seemed to be determined to "snatch defeat from the jaws of victory".

I have served in all offices that my club has, and the last few years have served as leader. It is so easy to use all kinds of excurses for not losing weight.  we blame it on circumstances, on other people, or maybe even genetics, and although these things may play a part, we are ultimately in control of what we eat and how much we exercise.

In 1993, I had surgery for a heart valve replacement. That scared me into doing well for quite a while, but then I got complacent and went back to old eating habits and of course I gained weight.

During my husband's illness in 2001, I stayed at home with him an did not attend TOPS for about 10 months. At that time, I added another 38 pounds to my frame.

Now I do my best not to have things in y home that I shouldn't eat and it is much easier that way. If I have access to something, I will eat it - especially chips.

I do keep a food diary. I do count calories and sometimes i write down quite a few, but at least I can't tell myself I didn't deserve it if I have a gain. I have many notebooks file with my calorie counts.

I have been in TOPS for a long time and have now been a KOPS for a year. Just never give up on your plan to lose weight because if you work at it, it will happen.

Thanks to God,  my family, and TOPS I hope to continue on as I have this past year.
