166 pound loss
to goal
I have been overweight most of my
adult life, when I got married I was a size 13. My husband worked
on the pipeline, most of the time working 12 to 14 hours a day, we
were out in western Kansas where we did not know anyone, I got very
bored so I ate and ate and so in about a year I put on roughly 75
pounds. That is what started my ups and downs with first one diet
then another, I would lose then gain back more than I lost and it
went like that for many years.
I joined a TOPS®chapter in Commerce
in the early 1980’s and lost some weight and was a division winner.
In a few months the chapter disbanded. I joined TOPS®#OK506, Miami
in May of 1990 at that time I was having a lot of back trouble and
the doctor said I need to lose some more weight and so I lost 35
pounds and had back surgery. I was a second place division winner
that year. I stayed in TOPS®for a few more months and dropped out.
Without the support and the weekly weigh-ins, my weight still going
up and down and up some more. In 1998 my first great-granddaughter
was born, I took care of her while mommy worked. She was on that
like to sit and play with her toys, four years later her brother was
born and I did the same thing taking care of him, the only
difference was when he started to walk he did not walk, he ran all
the time and he didn’t like baby food so he would come and eat at
least half of mine so I just ate what he left and didn’t go back and
get any more and so I started to lose again. When they finally
moved out, I started to go back to eating more, but then I
remembered that there was a lady who kept telling me you can do it,
if you just keep at it. I made up my mind to lose first for myself
and second for “Mom Tillie”. I know she is looking down today with
happy tears for me. Now that I have reached my goal I know that my
job has started. I will have to watch what I eat for the rest of my
life, as it will be just as hard to keep it off and to remain a
KOPS®, as it was to lose it. And so today I want to pass that on to
you, “You Can Do it, If You Keep at it”.

I
have always been overweight. I tried all types of diets. Liquid,
starvation, anything that anyone would mention I would try it to
lose weight. The weight would come off but right back on when I
would quit.
A
friend of mine from our local church asked me to attend a TOPS®meeting with a group that met in our church. I was amazed.
Through TOPS®and the encouragement of the members I have lost over
50 pounds and have been successful in keeping the weight off.
Our present leader, Virginia Garrison, has been a blessing to me and
the rest of the chapter. She encourages all of us when we eight
in. Even if we had a gain she still will have a positive
attitude.
I
think TOPS®is great. It’s the only thing that has worked for me.
